Matthew summarizes Jesus’ ministry with three powerful actions.
Jesus taught, proclaimed the gospel of the Kingdom, and healed every kind of disease.
These were not separate ministries.
His teaching revealed God’s truth.
His preaching announced God’s Kingdom.
His miracles demonstrated the reality of that Kingdom.
Jesus was not merely a teacher of wisdom or a miracle worker.
He was the promised King who came to restore what sin had broken.
People brought to Him those who were demon-possessed, suffering from seizures, paralyzed, and afflicted with many different diseases.
Jesus welcomed them and healed them.
His miracles were signs that the Kingdom of God had arrived.
Where the King is present, restoration begins.
Soon great crowds followed Jesus from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and beyond the Jordan.
Yet Matthew quietly reminds us of an important truth.
Many people followed Jesus as part of the crowd.
Only some became His disciples.
Crowds are attracted by miracles.
Disciples are transformed by Christ.
Today, we must ask ourselves:
Am I simply seeking what Jesus can give me?
Or am I following Jesus because He is my King?
May we not merely admire His power, but joyfully submit to His lordship.
For the King who taught, preached, and healed is still calling people to follow Him today.
