Matthew summarizes Jesus’ ministry with three powerful actions. Jesus taught , proclaimed the gospel of the Kingdom , and healed every kind of disease . These were not separate ministries. His teaching revealed God’s truth. His preaching announced God’s Kingdom. His miracles demonstrated the reality of that Kingdom. Jesus was not merely a teacher of wisdom or a miracle worker. He was the promised King who came to restore what sin had broken. People brought to Him those who were demon-possessed, suffering from seizures, paralyzed, and afflicted with many different diseases. Jesus welcomed them and healed them. His miracles were signs that the Kingdom of God had arrived. Where the King is present, restoration begins. Soon great crowds followed Jesus from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and beyond the Jordan. Yet Matthew quietly reminds us of an important truth. Jesus began His public ministry with a simple yet powerful message: “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” This was more than a call to improve one’s behavior. It was the announcement that the King had come. The Kingdom of God had arrived because the King Himself was present. True repentance is more than feeling sorry for sin. It is turning away from self-rule and joyfully submitting to Jesus as King. Immediately after proclaiming the kingdom, Jesus walked along the Sea of Galilee and called ordinary fishermen. Peter and Andrew were not scholars or religious leaders. They were simply working at their daily jobs. The Great Light Has Come Matthew 4:12–16 When John the Baptist was imprisoned, many may have thought that God’s work had come to a halt. The great prophet who had prepared the way for the Messiah was now behind bars. But God’s plan never stopped. At that very moment, Jesus went to Galilee.
