Genesis 46:24–27
From a Small Family to a Great Nation
Genesis 46 records the names of Jacob’s family who went down to Egypt.
At first glance, it may seem like just another genealogy.
But these names were evidence that God’s promise was truly growing.
Abraham was called alone.
Yet now his descendants had become a community of seventy people.
They still appeared to be only a small family,
but God was already preparing a great nation.
God’s work often begins very small.
A few people,
a small community,
a beginning that seems insignificant.
Yet through small beginnings,
God accomplishes far greater things than we can imagine.
Jacob’s family was going down to Egypt,
but one day they would become the people of the Exodus and grow into God’s covenant nation.
Sometimes we only see how small things are in the present.
But God is already painting a much greater picture.
