(Genesis 37:15–17)
Joseph was lost.
He was wandering in the open fields,
with a destination in mind but no clear direction.
Then he meets a man.
Scripture gives us no name, no background—
only a single question the man asks:
“What are you looking for?”
Joseph answers simply,
“I am looking for my brothers.
Please tell me where they are tending the flocks.”
Joseph has lost his way,
but he has not lost his purpose.
He does not complain or turn back.
He continues the task entrusted to him.
The man replies,
“They have left this place.
I heard them say, ‘Let us go to Dothan.’”
It sounds like a casual remark,
but with this single sentence,
Joseph’s steps are directed toward a point of no return.
Joseph follows his brothers and finds them in Dothan.
After this meeting,
the story cannot go back.
Once again, Scripture does not explicitly mention God.
There is no prayer, no vision, no explanation.
Yet within this ordinary encounter
and this seemingly accidental information,
God’s providence is quietly at work.
Joseph is searching for his brothers,
but God is leading Joseph into a far greater story.
Sometimes we feel lost.
But the biblical story reminds us:
even when we are lost,
God has already prepared the meeting and the direction.
