1 Thus says the Lord, "Go, buy a potter's earthenware flask, and take some of the elders of the people and some of the elders of the priests, 2 and go out to the Valley of the Son of Hinnom at the entry of the Potsherd Gate, and proclaim there the words that i tell you. 3 You shall say, 'Hear the word of the Lord, O kings of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem. Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I am bringing such disaster upon this place that the ears of everyone who hears of it will tingle. 4 Because the people have forsaken me and have profaned this place by making offerings in it to other gods whom neither they nor their fathers nor the kings of Judah have known; and because they have filled this place with the blood of innocents, 5 and have built the high places of Baal to burn their sons in the fire as burnt offerings to Baal, which i did not command or decree, nor did it come into my mind- 6 therefore, behold, days are coming, declares the Lord, when this place shall no more be called Topheth, or the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, but the Valley of Slaughter. 7 And in this place i will make void the plans of Judah and Jerusalem, and will cause their people to fall by the sword before their enemies, and by the hand of those who seek their life. I will give their dead bodies for food to the birds of their air and to the beasts of the earth. 8 And I will make this city a horror, a thing to be hissed at. Everyone who passes all its wounds. 9 And i will make them eat the flesh of their sons and their daughters, and everyone shall eat the flesh of his neighbor in the siege and in the distress. with which their enemies and those who seek their life afflict them.' 10 "Then you shall break the flask in the sight of the men who go with you, 11 and shall say to them, 'Thus says the Lord of hosts: So will i break this people and this city, as one breaks a potter's vessel, so that it can never be mended. Men shall bury in Topheth because there will be no place else to bury. 12 Thus will i do to this place, declares the Lord, and to its inhabitants, making this city like Topheth. 13 The house of Jerusalem and the houses of the kings of Judah-all the house on whose roofs offerings have been offered to all the host of heaven, and drink offerings have been poured out to other gods-shall be defiled like the place of Topheth."'

1 주님께서 나에게 말씀하셨다. "너는 토기장이를 찾아가서 항아리를 하나 산 다음에, 백성을 대표하는 장로 몇 사람과 나이든 제사장 몇 사람을 데리고, 2 '하시드 문' 어귀 곁에 있는 '힌놈의 골짜기'로 나아가서, 내가 너에게 일러주는 말을 거기에서 선포하여라. 3 너는 이렇게 말하여라. '너희 유다 왕들과 예루살렘 모든 주민아, 너희는 나 주의 말을 들어라. 나 만군의 주 이스라엘의 하나님이 말한다. 내가 이 곳에서 재앙을 내릴 터이니, 이 재앙은 그 소식을 듣는 모든 사람의 귀가 얼얼해질 만큼 무서운 재앙이 될 것이다. 4 이것은, 그들이 나를 저버리고, 이 곳을 남의 나라처럼 만들어 놓고, 그들 자신뿐만 아니라 그들의 조상이나 유다 왕들도 전혀 알지 못하던 다른 신들에게 분향하고, 이곳을 죄 없는 사람들의 피로 가득 채워 놓았기 때문이다. 5 그리고 그들은 제 자식들을 바알에게 번제물로 불살라 바치려고, 바알의 산당들을 세움으로써, 내가 그들에게 명한 적도 없고, 말한 적도 없는 , 내가 상상조차도 하여 본 적이 없는 죄를 저질렀기 때문이다. 6 그러므로 보아라. 그날이 오면, 다시는 '도벳'이나 '힌놈의 아들 골짜기'라고 부르지 않고, 오히려 '살육의 골짜기'라고 부를 것이다. 나 주의 말이다. 7 내가 이 곳에서 유다의 예루살렘의 계획을 좌절시키고, 그들이 전쟁할 때에 원수들의 칼에 찔려 죽게 하고, 그들의 목숨을 노리는 사람들의 손에 죽게 하고, 그들의 시체는 공중의 새와 들짐승의 먹이가 되게 하겠다. 8 내가 이렇게 이 도성을 폐허로 만들 것이며, 비웃음 거리가 되게 하겠다. 그러면 이 도성을 지나가는 사람마다, 이 곳에 내린 모든 재앙을 보고 놀라며, 비웃을 것이다. 9 그리고 그들은 목숨을 노리는 원수에게 포획되어 곤경에 빠지면, 그들은 제 자식을 잡아 먹고, 이웃끼리도 서로 잡아 먹을 것이다.' 10 이렇게 말하고 나서 너는 데리고 간 사람들이 보는 앞에서 그 항아리를 깨뜨리고, 11 그들에게 이렇게 전하여라. '만군의 주가 말한다. 토기 그릇은 한번 깨지면 다시 원상태로 쓸 수 없다. 나도 이 백성과 이 도성을 토기 그릇처럼 깨뜨려 버리겠다. 그러면 더 이상 시체를 묻을 자리가 없어서, 사람들이 도벳에까지 시체를 묻을 것이다. 12 내가 이 곳과 여기에 사는 주님을 이처럼 만들어 놓겠다. 반드시 이 도성을 도벳처럼 만들어 놓겠다. 나 주의 말이다. 13 예루살렘의 집들과 유다 왕궁드이 모두 도벳의 터럼 불결하게 될 것이다. 이는 집집마다 사람들이 지붕 위에서 온갖천체체게 향을 피워 올리고, 이방 신들에게 술을 부어 제물로 바쳤기 때문이다."

Main Idea

Jeremiah bought a potter's earthenware flask and went to the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, where the people and their leaders had sinned together and where judgement would be executed. There, the prophet listed the people's sins and proclaimed irreversible judgement upon them. 

예언자는 옹기를 사서 백성의 지도자들과 함께 범죄 장소요 심판이 시행될 장소인 힌놈의 아들 골짜기로 가서 죄악상을 열거하고 절대 돌이킬 수 없는 심판을 선고합니다.

Thinking, and Understanding

In the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, Jeremiah delivered a proclamation of judgement, declaring that a terrible disaster would strike Jerusalem. The reasons for this disaster included the treachery of rejecting God, idol worship, the spilling of innocent blood, and the building of high places for Baal where one's own children were given as burnt offerings. Now the Valley of the Son of Hinnom would be filled with the corpses of the slaughtered and become the 'Valley of Slaughter'. Jerusalem would turn to ruins, and inside the besieged city, the horror of parents eating their own children would unfold. The people of Judah, who had departed from God in pursuit of idols, would not evade God's terrible judgement (vv. 1-13).

힌놈의 아들 골짜기에서예레미야는 무서운 재앙이 예루살렘에 임할 것이라는 심판 선고를 받았습니다.재앙의 원인은 하나님을거부한 배신, 우상숭배, 무고한 피를 흘린 것, 바알의 산당을 세원 자녀를 번제물로 바친 것 등입니다. 이제 힌놈의 아들 골짜기는 살육 당한 자들의 시체로 채워져 '살육의 골짜기'가 될 것입니다. 예루살렘은 페허가 되고, 포위당한 예루살렘 안에서는 부모가 자녀를 잡아먹는 처참한 일이 벌어질 것입니다. 우상을 따라 하나님을 떠난 유대 백성들은 하나님의 무서운 심판을 결코 피할 수 없을 것입니다(1-13).

Who is God?

Vv. 1-2 God told Jeremiah to buy an earthenware flask, which symbolized Judah, and to go and stand in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom. Then he commanded the prophet to declare judgement in the place, where the most atrocious sins had been committed, with the leaders of Judah as witnesses. Let's reflect perceptively on whether there are any elements of idol worship in our lives that might deserve God's fearsome judgement. 

하나님은 예언자에게 유다를 상징하는 옹기를 사서 힌놈의 골짜기에 서게 하십니다. 그리고 유다 지도자들을 증인 삼아가장 극악한 범죄의 현장에서 심판을 선포하게 하십니다. 오늘 내 삶의 자리에는 하나님의 무서운 심판을 받을 만한 우상숭배의 요소가 없는지 민감하게 돌아보십시오.

V. 7 The people of Judah had many plans to live prosperously. However, when their plans made them stray far away from God, God set them back. If God is blocking our plans, let's consider the reason for this.

유다 백성들은 잘 살기 위한 많은 계획이 있었습니다. 하지만 그 계획들이 그들을 하나님께로부터 멀어지게 할 때 하나님은 계획을 좌절시키셨습니다. 하나님께서 내 계획을 막으신다면 그 이유를 생각해 보십시오.
