14 “Therefore, behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when it shall no longer be said, ‘As the Lord lives who brought up the people of Israel out of the land of Egypt.’ 15 but ‘As the Lord lives who brought up the people of Israel out of the north country and out of all the countries where he had driven them.’ For I will bring them back to their own land that I gave to their fathers. 16 “Behold, I am sending for many fishers, declares the Lord, and they shall catch them. And afterward I will send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain and every hill, and out of the clefts of the rocks. 17 For my eyes are on all their ways. They are not hidden from me nor is their iniquity concealed from my eyes. 18 But first I will doubly repay their iniquity and their sin, because they have polluted my land with carcasses of their detestable idols, and have filled my inheritance with their abominations. 19 O Lord, my strength and my stronghold, my refuge in the day of trouble, to you shall the nations come from the ends of the earth and say: “Our fathers have inherited nothing but lies, worthless things in which there is no profit. 20 Can man make for himself gods? Such are not gods!” 21 “Therefore, behold, I will make them know, this once I will make them know my power and my might, and they shall know that my name is the Lord.”

14 “ 그러므로보아라, 나주의말이다. 그날이지금오고있다. 그때에는사람들이더이상‘이스라엘백성을이집트땅에서이끌어내신주’의살아계심을두고맹세하지않고, 15 ‘이스라엘백성이쫓겨가서살던북녘땅과그밖의모든나라에서그들을이끌어내신주’의살아계심을두고맹세할것이다. 나는그들의조상에게주었던고향땅에그들을다시데려다놓을것이다.” 16 “내가많은어부를보내서, 이백성을고기잡듯잡아내겠다. 나주의말이다. 그런다음에, 많은사냥꾼을보내서모든산과모든언덕과바위틈을샅샅이뒤져서, 그들을사냥하듯잡아내겠다. 17 내가그들의모든행실을똑똑히지켜보고있기때문에, 그들도내앞에서숨을수가없고, 그들의죄악도내눈앞에서감추어질수가없다. 18 그들이시체같은우상으로내땅을더럽히고, 내가그들에게물려준땅을역겨운우상들로가득채워놓았으니, 나는이렇게우선그들의죄악과허물을갑절로보복하겠다.” 19 주님,내가환난을당할때에, 주님은나의힘과요새와피난처가되십니다. 세상만민이모든땅끝에서, 주님을찾아와아뢸것입니다. ‘우리의조상이물려준것은, 거짓되고헛되며, 전혀쓸모가없는것뿐입니다. 20 사람이어찌자기들이섬길신들을만들수있겠습니까? 그런것들이어찌신들이될수있겠습니까?’ 21 “그러므로보아라, 내가그들에게알리겠다. 이번에는나의권세와능력을그들에게알려서, 나의이름이‘주’라는것을그들이깨닫게하겠다.”

Main Idea

God promised the Israelites salvation. However, they must face judgement before the. God even promised to save all the other nations if they repented their evil ways. 

하나님은이스라엘의구원을약속하십니다. 하지만그전에반드시심판이있을것입니다. 만약자신들의악행을회개하면열방까지도구원하실것이라고약속하셨습니다.

Thinking and, Understanding

By successively delivering the messages of destruction, salvation and judgement, God is revealing that there is hope for Israel even in the midst of judgement. If through this process, God purifies the land, a time of restoration will come Jeremiah see that at that time all people from every corner of the earth will come before God. In other words, al the nations that witnessed God’s judgement and restoration of his people will realize that God is the true God and they will abandon their idols and come before him (vv14-21).

하나님은멸망, 구원, 심판의메시지를연이어말씀하심으로, 심판중에도이스라엘에게소망이있음을보여줍니다. 그과정을거쳐하나님께서그땅을정결케하시면회복의때가오는데, 예레미야는이때에세계만민이모든땅끝에서하나님께나아올것임을바라봅니다. 하나님의백성들의심판과회복을바라본열방이참신이신하나님을깨달아, 자신들의우상들을버리고하나님께나아오게된다는것입니다(14-21).

Who is God?

vv. 16-18 God would first judge before he saved. He would make the people pay the price for the wickedness of defiling God’s land through unclean and abominable idols. Salvation is not a way of condoning sin. That is why we would not be able to receive salvation without the incarnation and atonement of Jesus Christ. Let’s deny ourselves and bear the cross as the true way to respond to the grace we received by the precious blood of Christ. 

하나님은구원하시기전에우선심판하실것입니다. 부정하고가증한우상으로하나님의땅을더럽힌악에대해책임을물으실것입니다. 구원은죄에대한묵인이아닙니다. 그리스도예수님의성육신과대속이없이는우리가구원받을수없는것도이때문입니다. 주의값진피값으로받은은총에대한참다운반응으로, 자신을부인하고십자가를지십시요.

What lesson is God teaching us?

Vv 19-21 God is our only strength, guarantee an refuge. Are we proving that we have sincerely returned to God through a life relying only on God? Have the goals, values and things we boasted of before we knew God now changed?

하나님만이우리유일한힘과보장과피난처가되십니다. 내가진정으로돌아온자임을하나님만을의지하는삶으로증명하고있습니까? 하나님을알기전나의목표, 나의가치관, 나의자랑이이제는모두바뀌었습니까? 이것이증거입니다. 

Tip 1 

16:16-17 fishers, hunters. These are either enemy soldiers who will catch all fefugees (Ezek. 12:13; 29:4-5; Amos 4:2; 9:1-4; Hab. 1:14-17) or God’s servants who will pluck people out of exile (cf. Matt. 4:19; Mark 1:17).

Tip2 

16:19-20 Jeremiah’s confession of faith indicates he has repented, as 15:19-21 ordered. My strength. The one who delivers him (Ex. 15:2-3). My refuge. His place of protection (cf. Jer. 12:1-4; 15:10-12). The nations will cometo Yahweh, rejecting their idols (10:1-16) and confessing that he alone is God and thus able to save. This is the OT expectation and the purpose of Israel’s calling (Gen. 12:1-3)

Lord, as you have given us precious salvation, help us to discard all of our idols, and exalt only you.
