(Jeremiah 14: 13-22, 예레미야 14:13-22)

13 Then I said: “Ah, Lord God, behold, the prophets say to them, ‘You shall not see the sword, nor shall you have famine, but I will give you assured peace in this place.’” 14 And the Lord said to me: “The prophets are prophesying lies in my name. I did not send them, nor did I command them or speak to them. They are prophesying to you a lying vision, worthless divination, and the deceit of their own minds. 15 Therefore thus says the Lord concerning the prophets who prophesy in my name although I did not send them, and who say, ‘Sword and famine not come upon this land’: By sword and famine those prophets shall be consumed. 16 And the people to whom they prophesy shall be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem, victims of famine and sword, with none to bury them-them, their wives, their sons, and their daughters. For I will pour out their evil upon them. 17 “You shall say to them this word: ‘Let my eyes run down with tears night and day, and let them not cease, for the virgin daughter of my people is shattered with a great wound, with a very grievous blow. 18 If I go out into the field, behold, those pierced by the diseases of famine! For both prophet and priest ply their trade through the land and have no knowledge.’” 19 Have you utterly rejected Judah? Does your soul loathe Zion? Why have you struck us down so that there is no healing for us? We looked for peace, but no good came; for a time of healing, but behold, terror. 20 We acknowledge our wickedness, O Lord, and iniquity of our fathers, for we have sinned against you 21 Do not spurn us, for your name’s sake; do not dishonor your glorious throne; remember and do not break your covenant with us. 22 Are there any among the false gods of the nations that can bring rain? Or can the heavens give showers? Are you not be, O Lord our God? We set our hope on you, for you do all these things.

13 그래서 내가 아뢰었다. “그렇지만 주 하나님, 저 예언자들이 이 백성에게 주님의 말씀이라고 하면서 ‘전쟁이 일어나지 않는다. 기근이 오지 않는다. 오히려 주님께서 이 곳에서 너희에게 확실한 평화를 주신다.’ 합니다.” 14 주님께서 나에게 말씀하셨다. “그 예언자들은 내 이름으로 거짓 예언을 하고 있다. 나는 그들을 예언자로 보내지 않았고, 그들에게 명하지도 않았고, 그들에게 말하지도 않았다. 그들이 이 백성에게 예언하는 것은, 꾸며낸 거짓말이다.” 15 주님께서 그 예언자들을 두고 이렇게 말씀하신다. “그들은 내가 보내지도 않았는데, 내 이름으로 거짓을 예언하였다. ‘이 땅에는 전쟁과 기근이 없을 것이다’하고 말한 예언자들은 전쟁과 기근으로 죽을 것이다. 16 그 예언을 들은 이 백성도, 기근과 전쟁에 시달리다가 죽어서 예루살렘 거리에 내던져질 것이며, 그들을 묻어 줄 사람이 아무도 없을 것이다. 그들뿐만 아니라 그들의 아내들과 아들 딸들도 그와 같이 될 것이니, 이것은 내가 그들 위에 재앙을 퍼부을 것이기 때문이다.” 17 “너는 이제 그들에게 이렇게 전하여라. ‘내 눈에서 밤낮, 하염없이 눈물이 흘러 내릴 것이다. 처녀 딸, 내 사랑스러운 백성이, 참혹하게 얻어 맞아 죽을 지경에 이르렀기 때문이다. 18 들녘으로 나가 보면, 거기에는 칼에 찔려 죽은 사람들이 있고, 도성으로 들어가 보면, 거기에는 기근으로 고통받는 사람들 뿐이다. 그렇다. 예언자도 제사장도 어찌할 바 모르는 채로 온 나라를 헤맬 뿐이다.”’ 19 “주님은 유다를 완전히 버리셨습니까? 아니면 주님께서 진정으로 시온을 미워하십니까? 어찌하여 주님께서는, 우리가 낫지도 못하게 이렇게 심하게 치셨습니까? 우리가 기다린 것은 평화였습니다. 그런데 좋은 일이라고는 하나도 없습니다. 우리는 이 상처가 낫기만을 기다렸는데, 오히려 무서운 일만 당하고 있습니다. 20 주님, 우리는 우리의 사악함과 우리 조상의 죄악을 인정합니다. 우리는 주님께 죄를 지었습니다. 21 그러나 주님의 이름을 생각 하셔서라도 우리를 박대하지 마시고, 주님의 영광스러운 보좌가 욕되지 않게 하여 주십시오. 주님께서 우리와 맺은 언약을 기억하시고, 그 언약을 깨뜨리지 말아 주십시오. 22 이방 사람이 섬기는 허황된 우상들 가운데 비를 내리는 신들이 있습니까? 주 우리의 하나님, 그런 분은 바로 주님이 아니십니까? 그러므로 우리는 오직 주님께만 희망을 걸고 있습니다. 주님께서 이 모든 것을 지으셨기 때문입니다.”

Personal Application

God defines prophets who prophesy of false peace as false prophets. And God declares that they will die of war and famine.

In addition, the people who believed the false prophets and did not discern were going to die. This is really a declaration of terrible  judgment, and a powerful message that warns us to keep our minds up and to have the right discernment. Especially, those who are deceived by heresy will not be able to excuse themselves that they are deceived. We know that it is not the Word of God that says in the name of God. Therefore, we must discern the truth carefully as if we should obey God’s Word.(13-18)

Amazingly, Jeremiah 14 does not end here. Because, Jeremiah is seeking the mercy at the end of God’s judgement declaration for Israel. He begs God to take away judgement. It is never easy to be in the presence of God as an intercessor for those who are deceived by lies, so that persecuted me and didn't believe the words of God that I have preached, and continue to do evil. Because I have to break my pride, judgment, and anger. I understand that the declaration of the terrible judgement of God is known to me and I am trembling of it, but that the difficult task of meditating for them before God is the mission of our believers(19-22).

하나님께서는 거짓된 평안을 예언하는 선지자들을 모두 거짓 선지자로 규정하시고 있다. 그리고 그들은 전쟁과 기근으로 죽을 것이라고 말씀하신다.

뿐만 아니라, 그 거짓 선지자들의 말을 분별하지 않고 믿었던 사람들도 죽게 될 것이라고 선언하신다. 이것은 정말 무서운 심판의 선언이고, 우리로 정신을 바짝 차리고 바른 분별력을 가질 것을 경고하는 강력한 메세지이다. 특히 이단에 빠진 사람들은 자신들이 거짓말에 속았다고 핑계할 수 없을 것이다. 하나님의 이름으로 전한다고 다 하나님의 말씀은 아닌 것을 우리는 알고 있다. 그러므로 우리는 하나님의 말씀에 순종해야 하는 것처럼 바른 분별도 해야 한다(13-18).

그런데 놀랍게도 예레미야 14장의 말씀은 여기서 끝나지 않는다. 예레미야가 하나님의 심판 선언의 끝에서 이스라엘을 위해서 하나님의 자비를 구하고 있기 때문이다. 그가 하나님께 심판을 거두어 달라고 하나님께 간청하고 있다. 거짓말에 미혹되어 나를 핍박하고, 내가 전한 하나님의 말씀을 믿지 않고, 계속해서 악을 행하는 사람들을 위해 중보자로  하나님 앞에서 서는 것은 결코 쉬운 일이 아니다. 나의 자존심과 판단과 분노를  깨뜨려야 하기 때문이다. 하나님의 무서운 심판의 선언을 들어서 내가 알고 있고, 그로 인해 나도 역시 심히 떨리지만, 그래도 하나님께 나아가서 그들을 위해 중보해야 하는 그 어려운 일이 우리 믿는 자들의 사명임을 나는 깨닫는다(19-22).
