A People Deceitful to Their Bones (Jeremiah 9:7-17)
뼈 속까지 거짓된 백성
7 Therefore thus says the Lord of hosts; “Behold, I will
refine them and test them, for what else can I do, because of my people? 8
Their tongue is a deadly arrow; it speaks deceitfully; with his mouth each
speaks peace to his neighbor, but in his heart he plans an ambush for him. 9
Shall I not punish them for these things? Declares the Lord, and shall I not
avenge myself on a nation such as this? 10 “ I will take up weeping and wailing
for the mountains, and a lamentation for the pastures of the wilderness,
because they are laid waste so that no one passes through, and the lowing of
cattle is not heard; both the birds of the air and the beasts have fled and are
gone. 11 I will make Jerusalem a heap of ruins, a lair of jackals, and I will
make the cities of Judah a desolation, without inhabitant.” 12 Who is the man
so wise that he can understand this? To whom has the mouth of the Lord spoken,
that he may declare it? Why is the land ruined and laid waste like a
wilderness, so that no one passes through? 13 And the Lord says: “Because they
have forsaken my law that I set before them, and have not obeyed my voice or
walked in accord with it, 14 but have stubbornly followed their own hearts and
have gone after the Baals, as their fathers taught them, 15 Therefore thus says
the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will feed this people with
bitter food, and give them poisonous water to drink. 16 I will scatter them
among the nations whom neither they nor their fathers have known, and I will
send the sword after them, until I have consumed them.”
7 나 만군의 주가 말한다. 보아라, 내가 내 백성을 금속 단련하듯 단련하며,
시험하여 보겠다.
내 백성이 악을 저질렀으니, 죄 많은, 이 가련한 백성을,
내가 달리 어떤 방법으로 다룰 수 있겠느냐? 8 내 백성의 혀는 독이 묻은 화살이다.
입에서 나오는 말은 거짓말뿐이다. 입으로는 서로 평화를 이야기하지만, 마음 속에서는 서로 해칠 생각을 품고 있다. 9 이러한 자들을 내가 벌하지 않을 수 있겠느냐? 나 주의 말이다. 이러한 백성에게 내가 보복하지 않을 수가 있겠느냐?” 10 나는 산들을 보고 울며 탄식합니다. 광야의 초원을 바라보고,
슬픈 노래를 읊겠습니다. 그처럼 무성하던 곳들이 모두 황무지가 되었고, 지나다니는 사람이 하나도 없습니다. 가축 떼의 울음 속리도 들려 오지 않습니다. 공중의 새에서부터 들의 짐승에 이르기
가지, 다 다른 곳으로 도망하여 사라졌습니다. 11 “내가 예루살렘을 돌무더기로 만들어서 여우들이 우글거리는 소굴이 되게 하고, 유다의 성읍들을 황무지로 바꾸어 놓아 아무도 살 수 없게 하겠다. “ 12 이 땅이 왜 망하였는지, 왜 사막처럼 황폐해졌는지, 왜 행인마저 끊어졌는지, 이것을 알아낼 만큼 지혜있는 사람이 누구인가? 이 까닭을 말할 수 있도록, 주님의 입에서 직접 말씀을 받은 사람이 누구인가? 13 주님께서 대답하셨다. “나는 이 백성에게 나의 율법을 주면서 지키라고 하였다. 그러나 그들이 그것을 버리고, 나의 말을 순종하지 않고, 실천하지 않았다. 14 그들은 오히려 자기들의 고집대로 살고, 조상이 섬기라고 가르쳐 준 바알 신들을 따라 다녔다. 15 그러므로 나 만군의 주 이스라엘의 하나님이 말한다. 내가 이 백성에게 쓴 쑥을 먹이며, 독을 탄 물을 마시게 하겠다. 16 또 내가, 그들도 모르고 그들의 조상도 알지 못하던 이방 민족 가운데 그들을 흩어 놓고, 내가 그들을 전멸시킬 때까지 칼이 그들을 뒤쫓게 하겠다.”

Main Idea
The People were ruined by their adultery and deceit. The
leaders preached lies instead of God’s word, and the people expanded these lies
and even taught them.
백성들을 망하게 한 것은 그들의 행음과 거짓입니다. 지도자는 하나님의 말씀 대신에 거짓을 전하고 백성들은 거짓을 확대하고 심지어 가르치기까지 했습니다.
Thinking, and Understanding
The people of Israel were duplicitous. The leaders treated a
serious illness as a light cold by preaching false peace, and the people also
spoke this false peace while hiding their deadly arrows. The people were so
thoroughly corrupt that God could not find a reason to cancel or delay his
judgement. Furthermore, although the people had received God’s law they did not
abide by it, and instead abandoned it to serve Baal, in accordance with their suborn
will. Therefore, judgement like poisonous water their would befall the people
of Judah, and they would be chased by the sword until they were scattered and
annihilated (vv.7-16).
백성들은 겉과 속이 달랐습니다. 지도자들이 거짓 평화를 전해 영혼의 심각한 중병을 가벼운 감기로 바꾸는 동안,
백성들도 치명적인 화살을 감춘 채 평화를 말했습니다. 하나님께서 심판을 취소하거나 연기할 이유를 찾지 못할 만큼 총체적으로 썩어 있었습니다. 또한 그들은 하나님의 율법을 받았지만, 이를 행하지 않고 버렸고 자신들의 고집대로 바알을 섬겼습니다. 그러므로 독을 탄 물과 같은 심판이 임하며 유다 백성은 열방으로 흩어져 전멸되기까지 칼을 피할 수 없게 될 것입니다(7-16).
Who is God?
v. 7 God eliminated the problem of the abounding deceit and
disobedience of Judah through judgement. This was a painful event for God, who
had to carry out the judgement, as well as for the people who suffered it. It
is foolish to wait until God deals with our sin. What deceit must we eliminate
before God has to deal with it?
유다에 관영한 거짓과 불순종의 문제를 하나님께서 심판으로 제거하셨습니다. 이것은 심판을 행하는 하나님과 심판을 당하는 자에게 모두 아픔이 됩니다. 하나님께서 내 죄를 다루시기까지 기다리는 것은 어리석은 일입니다.

What lesson is God
teaching us?
vv. 12-16 God’s dwelling place became a desert and the
people of Judah were taken as captives into lands that were unfamiliar to them
and their ancestors. They were annihilated for one reason- they had departed
from God and served Baal, as their fathers had ‘taught’ them. Are we teaching
our children that we must serve only God?
하나님의 처소가 광야가 되고 백성이 조상이 모르는 땅으로 잡혀가 진멸된 이유는 하나입니다.
하나님을 떠나 조상이 ‘가르친’ 바알을 섬겼기 때문입니다.
나는 내 자녀에게 하나님만 섬겨야 한다는 것을 어떻게 가르치고 있습니까?
Tip
9:4-6 Everyone
deceive his neighbor, and no one speaks the truth. Deceit and slander
dominate the Israelites’ speech, so no one should trust friend or neighbor. Again,
they refuse to know God and his will (v,3). When God’s own people turn away
from him, and thus from his standards of truth, their everyday speech is
increasingly filled with lies.
Pray
Lord, help us to teach truth and live honestly, even if the
truth isn’t immediately repaid by good.
