Great Are the LORD’s Works
1 Praise the LORD!
I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart, in the company of the upright,
in the congregation.
2 Great are the works of the LORD, studied by all who delight in them.
3 Full of splendor and majesty is his work, and his righteousness endures forever. 4 He has caused his wonderous works to be remembered;
the LORD is gracious and merciful.
5 He provides food for those who fear him; he remembers his covenant forever.
6 He has shown his people the power of his works, in giving them the inheritance of the nations.
7 The works of his hands are faithful and just; all his precepts are trustworthy;
8 they are established forever and ever, to be performed with faithfulness and uprightness.
9 He sent redemption to his people; he has commanded his covenant forever.
Holy and awesome is his name!
10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding. His praise endures forever!
1. Worship begins not in isolation but in the presence of the faithful. The “upright” are not perfect but those who seek to honor God in humility.
Genuine praise flows from a heart that delights in God- and this delight grows when shared within the body of Christ(v. 1)
2. The Majesty and Character of God’s Works (vv.2-4)
God’s works are not only majestic but deeply personal. He makes sure we remember His miracles -not for memory’s sake, but to fuel worship and trust
God’s grace and mercy shape the nature of His works-justice wrapped in compassion.
3. The Faithfulness of God in History (vv. 5-6)
From manna in the desert to the conquest of Canaan, God provided and fought for His people. Fear of the Lord brings provision. His power isn’t only demonstrated in miracles, but in the quiet faithfulness of covenant-keeping.
4. His Justice, Truth, and Redemption (vv. 7-9)
God’s works are rooted in truth and justice, and His name is holy and awesome. Redemption was not a one-time event- it is part of an eternal covenant. In a world full of injustice, we remember the One who never breaks a promise.
5. The Path of True Wisdom(v.10)
True wisdom is not knowledge but reverent obedience. It begins with the fear of the Lord and becomes visible through a life that walks in His commands. To “know” God without transformation is empty. A wise life is a worshipful life.
